Layout problem can be widely found in many domains such as mechanical engineering, aerospace, robot path planning, pattern recognition, traffic transportation, Large Scale Integrated circuit, publication printing, garments, leather, shipbuilding, urban planning and building design. Many research works on layout problem in many fields are made. However, it is weak to apply layout theory in the aspect of mechanical project field. The layout problem of mechanical product belongs to complex three-dimensional layout problem. Because of the complexity of geometry shape and constraint relation of mechanical product's components, mechanical product layout problem has its particularity different from other layout problems. The constraint classification and a hierarchical solving modeling are put forward in this paper, helpful for the validity and calculation of mechanical product layout. Introducing heuristic algorithm and simulated annealing algorithm, the software design of the reducer layout system is realized with ObjectARX and C++ technologies on AutoCAD2002 platform. And an example of reducer layout design is given and the parametric analysis of simulated annealing is presented. This paper consists of six chapters; the main research work in each chapter is stated as follows: Chapter One is introduction. The research accomplishment of domestic and international layout theory and the present situation of its application in mechanical products design are presented. The research works of this paper are stated. Chapter Two states the constraint classes in mechanical product layout design. The requirement and information of the mechanical product that has influence in layout design is described with different constraint classes. On the basis of top-down design idea, mechanical product theoretically is divided into three levels: assembly level, part level and feature level. According to the classes and the description of the constraints, a hierarchical solving modeling for the layout design is constructed. Chapter Three discusses the application of simulated annealing algorithm in mechanical product layout design. Chapter Four presents the descriptions of mechanical product layout problem with Object-Oriented Programming thought. The descriptions include constraints and simulated annealing algorithm applied for product layout design in order to realize the layout model.Chapter Five introduces the environment of software development. Using ObjectARX2000 technology in AutoCAD environment and Visual C++, the reducer layout design software development course and its application examples have been stated. Chapter Six draws some beneficial conclusions and some consideration for future work.
