Production facility layout is considered to be one of the main factors that accelerated to improve productivity and reduce production costs. For a manufacturing enterprise, a scientific and reasonable production facilities layout is critical to enhance market competitiveness. But there are many enterprises in our country don't put enough attention on the production facility layout, and also the research of heuristic algorithms for production facility layout are mostly limited to equipment layout or layout work of equal area. However, the research on unequal and limited operating unit was lacked. In this paper, the problem of production facility layout has been analyzed by using the production base of an enterprise as a model. The research has some theoretical and practical significance.Based on the research of related content of production facility layout and heuristic algorithms, the following specific has been done.(1) The genetic algorithm and simulated annealing hybrid algorithm were constructed to solve the problem of production facility layout, and the solving steps for hybrid algorithm were established. Aimed at the limited location in the operating units, the method of restrictions the units coordinate was proposed which was used to solve the problem. The mathematical model of production facility layout and related constraints were established. The genetic algorithm and simulated annealing hybrid algorithm for solving the production facility layout was achieved by using the Matlab program.(2)By the analysis of the original layout of the enterprise, the advantages and disadvantages of the production facilities layout were discussed and the relevant experience which would be used for reference in the processes of designing new layout was summarized. Additionally, a new workshop facilities layout was designed based on the production data and requirements by using the genetic algorithm and simulated annealing hybrid algorithm.(3) In this paper, two types of design are provided, one was designed by using the systematic layout planning and the other was designed by using the genetic algorithm and simulated annealing hybrid algorithm. Based on numeral analysis, the advantages and disadvantages of the two methods were summarized. Finally, the layout of the new workshop of the enterprise was analyzed and some suggestions for improving the layout were provided at the result of a new layout designed basing on the genetic algorithm and simulated annealing hybrid algorithm. The material handing quantity was decreased 28 percent in the improved workshop, meanwhile the floor area was saved, and the space utilization was raised. In this paper, a reasonable method of production facilities layout design was considered, and the production facilities layout model was established. Then the feasible layout scheme was proposed based on the layout design of production facilities by using the genetic algorithm and simulated annealing hybrid algorithm. Scientific basis and support were provided for the enterprise's rational distribution. The result of the related research can provide useful guidance and reference for the similar enterprises to build or improve the production facilities layout.
