Due to petroleum shortage and air pollution, it is urgent to find a kind of "clean"vehicle. Electric vehicle availably makes use of energy sources that can be gainedwidely because of no emission, low noise, small vibration and no need for petroleumduring use period. Although electric vehicle has many advantages, it has hardly brought aboutindustrialization since the electric vehicle appeared 100 years ago. System control andmanage technology are also important factors besides power battery. The authorparticipated in some tasks of developing the powertrain control system for XL pureelectric vehicle, which include the development of CAN bus system, the powertraincontroller's hardware and relative development tools. The distributed control system of XL pure electric vehicle is brought forward inthis thesis. And the control system network model based on CAN bus is designedafter deeply analyzing communication principle of CAN bus. Application-levelprotocol of CAN bus is firstly developed for XL pure electric vehicle. The powertrain controller according to adopting the principle of modularizationand perfect EMC design based on 32-bit microcontroller is designed. It successfullypassed through the tests of EMC, high and low temperature, vibration. In order to meet for the need of debugging the powertrain controller and vehicle,a hardware-in-the-loop simulating and monitoring system are developed based onCAN bus, which improved the developing efficiency. The final bench tests and road experiments show that the control systemsuccessfully realized the functions of driving control, energy optimization, regeneration braking control, bus networks management and faults diagnostication, and effectively improve the drive ability, efficiency and reliability of the XL pureelectric vehicles.
