First, this paper analyzed characteristics of the method which used forlarge-diameter rock-socketed piles based on current results from the domestic andinternational research,and point out the merits and shortcomings of each methodwhen these methods used for the case studied in this paper. This paper established a three-dimension nonlinear finite element model, inwhich the interaction of piles and soil is considered. Appropriate modifications tocurrent program are made to be suitable for analyze and calculation of piles underlateral load. In order to minimize the number of elements and nodes without sacrificing theaccuracy of analysis, the infinite element is also introduced to make the three-dimen-sional analysis computationally feasible. Most of the result is given by the means offigures. Nonlinear modified Duncan-Chang model is applied to consider load-de-creasing soil and the effect of the second main stress. In Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, the lateral bearing characteristics of large-diameterrock-socketed piles are analyzed. The effect of raft to the single pile, intervals andlocations to the piles are described in detail. Most of the result is clearly given by themeans of figures. Conclusions are made through analyze that the rock-socketed segment will in-crease the delivering depth of lateral load enormously, and bear a lot of lateraladditional stress. A raft can develop the bearing capability of the soil under the raft. In analyze ofpile groups, the bearing characteristics of large-diameter rock-socketed piles aredescribed clearly by means of studying the moment, shear force and shaft force ofpiles in different intervals. In the same time, the conclusion is obtained that the soil inpile groups will influence the bearing characteristics.
