Arc furnace is a kind of nonlinear load, which could bring some interrupt to the power systems, so the reactive power compensation for arc furnace has become a hotspot in recent years. Among familiar compensators, Thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) is suitable for compensating the arc furnace. In this article, the theory of TCR has been researched, and a suitable control strategy has been selected. Based on DSP, a kind of TCR equipment is developed. The controller's CPU is TMS320LF2407A, and its peripherals include signal processing, pluses magnifying, etc. The C language and assembly language are both used to compose the control program. The results of actual test show that the control strategy is valid and creditable, the controller could balance the loads and its respond speed is high.
