Electric arc furnace is an industrial furnace that smelting ores and metals by the high temperature of the arc generated. In the operated process of electric arc furnace, the line of current waveform was distorted and harmonic generated because of the nonlinear characteristic of the arc resistance. During the melting period, the arc length Volatility result in the arc current random changing and reactive power having a strong impact on the grid in the line and Causing voltage fluctuation and flicker of the grid. In recent years, Electric arc furnace is on harm to the grid severely with capacity and power is increasing of the electric arc furnace. It is important practical significance which research and rational design of electric arc furnace program that reactive power compensation to solve the power quality of the power supply system.This paper researches on the reactive power compensation device for electric arc furnace. Large electric arc furnace can cause disturbance of the grid severely which dramatic changing and asymmetric shock loads severe, Need to be quick compensation to suppress voltage fluctuation and flicker and balancing compensation to reduce the negative sequence current pollution of the grid. This article is the basic on the principles of reactive power compensation, Used the method of Symmetrical component to compensate for the unbalanced load of the electric arc furnace. In connection with the SVC program of Electric arc furnace in zhongye jingcheng company,it was designed which the reactive power compensation of Power Filter (FC) and thyristor controlled reactance (TCR) engages and improved Second filter channel and used C filter instead of single-tuned filter. The compensated Power are having good correction in the project site of the Yingkou factory, current, voltage waveform are significantly improved up to the national requirements of the standard, The actual operation of SVC and test results of waveform are verified rationality and feasibility of the design.
