| The project named "The Development of Knowledge Based Engineering for Door Accessories Package System (KBE for DAPS)" is funded by Science and Technology Committee of Jilin Province. Door Accessory Package System was based on the knowledge and experience about car door design, and developed on the platform of CATIA software with the further development tool GII modules that is supplied by CATIA API library .Car door is the relatively unattached assembly. Car Door packaging is a very important scheme design task during the auto-body conceptual design phase. The structure design of the car door mainly to solve these tasks ,such as the package of the door accessories,movement check,security check and the availability and reliability of the packaged accessories. So a lot of work that will be repeated is unavoidable. As for the multi-object,multi-constraint characters in the door accessory package, the accomplishment of the package of the door accessories in the car demands a great deal of field expert's experience and knowledge as guidance。So how to process the car door packaging highly efficiently is a big problem to be solved immediately in the auto-body overall design cycle.But what traditional CAD system can do is only describe the geometric attributes of product. Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) is an important embranchment of Artificial intelligence (AI), it's pith is how to solve problems with knowledge. The difference between the Knowledge Based System (KBS) and the common programs is: the object which is operated by the former is knowledge, but the object which is operated by data. KBE project developers will collect the rules and the experts' knowledge of design, analysis and manufacturing and then integrate them into the design process. KBE design system can provide right knowledge and right tools at the right time. Combine the field expert's experience and knowledge with the CAD technology , develop the special CAD system, will greatly improve efficiency of design. Currently, KBE has been recognized as a potentially powerful enabling tool for product design process.As an advanced CAD system, DAPS will improve the efficiency of car door design . KBE for DAPS will integrate the database knowledge base and CAD system and give a special intelligence CAD system for automobile body designers .The KBE for DAPS system is divided into three major parts: The Door Accessory Database System based in the CATIA , for short as DADS,the Door Accessory Package System based in the CATIA, for short as DAPS,the Door Accessory Knowledgebase System based in the CATIA , for short as DAKBS。The KBE for DAPS system structure as figure 1。Door Accessory Database System (DADS) is developed by use of CATIA LIBRARY function for CATIA data management, the main functions of DADS are to help car door designer to make his decision with the information and geometry models of car door accessories. Furthermore to some degree, DADS can make it possible to think about economics and lightening the weight of car door at the beginning of the design.Door Accessory Package System is the main frame of the integrate knowledge-based engineering for the DAPS system,principally calls the DADS system to perform the selection and package of the door accessory,and call the knowledge from the knowledge base of the DAKBS system to help the designers to make their decision。Door Accessory Knowledgebase System comprises"infer machine"and"explainer"。 The DAKBS system is mainly used to gather and store expert knowledge and experience,which is provided with the functions of writing, modifying ,deleting , updating the knowledge and rules,and the sound interface with the DAPS system。 As a integrated system, except for the development of the three main inner systems, it need more time to study how to integrate them.
