Study On The Street Lighting Of Pedestrian Malls

Pedestrian mall is the outdoor public space for shopping and leisure not only during the daytime but also at night. So good street lighting is very important to the street environment. By means of some principles and methods of architectural technology, this paper studies street lighting in pedestrian malls in order to conclude some guidelines for street lighting design to create better lighting environment for citizens. To begin with, this paper introduces the classifications, components, environment and occupants' activities of pedestrian malls, and analyzes the functions and characteristics of street lighting in pedestrian malls. Based on the analysis, this paper concentrates on studying the street lighting in pedestrian malls. Street lighting quality in pedestrian mall has relationship with many factors, so this paper discusses the factors influencing the street lighting environment. In addition, this paper studies the lighting environment of some pedestrian malls in Chongqing by mean of questionnaires. And the data are analyzed by the statistical software SPSS to get the correlations between the factors. By the correlation analysis, this paper concludes the important factors of street lighting environment. Some of the factors of street lighting environment can be measured, but others can not. This paper mainly studies the illuminance level of the street lighting, and recommends the lighting standard of the street lighting. Based on the Weber-Fechner Law, this paper recommends the lighting standard by combining the spot measure values with the subjective evaluation scores in pedestrian malls, and refers to some methods in China and other countries to establish the standard. In addition, this paper draws some conclusions by the correlations between the spot measure values and subjective evaluation scores.Finally, this paper introduces the common light sources, luminaries, and luminaries arrangement in street lighting, recommends how to choose appropriate light sources, luminaries and luminaries arrangement, and discusses the illuminance calculations and common lighting software of street lighting.
