This Paper designs a power system fault diagnostic system combined with Rough-Set Theory and Expert System. In which, Object-Oriented knowledge representation is adopted to represent the Network while production rules to represent the diagnostic rules. A new method of Rough-Set-Based knowledge acquisition is proposed. Based on hierarchical diagnostic strategy, the system first uses forward reasoning from tripped breakers information to estimate the fault section namely doubtful fault devices list, decides which conditional attributes in the decision table will be selected to remove the redundant conditional attributes. The diagnostic rules are extracted by attribute-reducting and value-reducting the decision table. It uses the rules to Match the information of breakers and relays to educe fault device. It has excellent fault-tolerance capability. At the same time, it uses the backward reasoning from the doubtful devices, inquires about the protective relaying and marking it to arrange scores of doubtful device in numerical sequence to help to diagnose.
