Architectural programming is a new concept in China. Although its framework of rationale has already taken shape, it cannot be denied that theories concerning architectural programming still need improving. What we have noticed is that the existing theories are not functioning properly in practical work and therefore this thesis intends to detect the underlying problems and then strike a balance between architectural programming and architecture design. Based on the rationale of architectural programming home and abroad as well as the concrete operating mode of real estate exploitation, this study hopes to work out a feasible model of architectural programming that integrates multidisciplinary insights.Part one of the thesis introduces the framework of rationale through a full exposition of the concept of architectural programming. Besides, it studies the existing model of architectural programming, analyzing its advantages and disadvantages. Finally, an ideal operating mode of architectural programming will be put forward.Part two deals at some length with how the proposed mode operates, including the operational process, preparative and evaluation.Part three presents a case study of "Shuhe Chama Posthouse Project". By employing knowledge derived from several different disciplines, this part demonstrates the new mode of architectural programming. The consistency and feasibility of this mode will be proved in this part. It is hoped that this mode may benefit future architectural programming.Architectural programming is intended to help construction projects, that is, the buildings we are seeking for are "architecture" in its real sense. They are technologically qualified, and at the same time distinguishable work of art. However, due to the various social factors, the implementation of architectural programming cannot be done in an action. What is emphasized in the thesis is the consistency and feasibility of the methodological process of architectural programming, which is hoped to serve as a foundation for further research.
