With the rapid development of the Electric Power Industry in our country, new relay protection equipments especially microprocessor relay protection equipments have been widely applied in Power System, which has a higher and newer requirement to the corresponding relay testing technology. Microprocessor relay protection testing equipment based on advanced technology such as computer automation testing etc have become an inevitable specific equipment in relay testing field of Power System. The exploration and application of microprocessor relay protection testing equipment has a great active significance to improve relay testing level prevent incorrect action of relay protection and automation equipments and to ensure the safety operation of electric network.A set of economical and practical microprocessor relay protection testing equipment based on the DSP technology, meeting the case of project sites, is developed on the reference of a great deal of documents domestic and overseas, combing with the development trend of relay protection testing technology in the world and the characteristic of the "multifunctional microprocessor relay protection and substation integrated automation experimental training equipment", both of which consist of a complete experimental training system. And the microprocessor relay protection testing equipment is one important part of the "multifunctional microprocessor relay protection and substation integrated automation experimental training system" to meet the various experimental testing requirements to the "multifunctional microprocessor relay protection and substation integrated automation experimental training equipment". On the other hand, the microprocessor relay protection testing equipment can also be an independent equipment to meet the common relay testing requirement of Power System, which has a great applicative potential and practical value.In the paper, the structure and principle of the whole testing system are introduced, the hardware and software of the microprocessor relay protection testing equipment are designed based on modular structure method. The principle and the function of the whole hardware modular are analyzed in detail, a set of power amplificatory circuits (including current amplificatory and voltage amplificatory circuits) designing and the corresponding protective circuits designing of which are brought forward. All kinds of mathematical modules of the simulation circuits areestablished, which form the basis of the excellent quality of the testing equipment. The designing rule and the programming method of the whole software are also set forth, in which, an effective communication protocol between computer and microprocessor is designed. The results of the simulation and the real debugging experiment indicate that the microprocessor relay protection instrument based on DSP technology can not only meet various experimental demands of "the microprocessor relay protection and substation integrated automation experimental training equipment", but also meet the testing requirements of power system relay protection testing in the project site.The microprocessor relay protection equipment based on DSP technology, has the characteristic of small buck light weight high resolution responsible operation simple wire connecting and mistakes avoiding etc, is adapted to the development of Power System in our country, which can be extended to application to those colleges that set the major of electric engineering with one important part of "the multifunction microprocessor relay protection and substation integrated automation experimental training system".
