In overhead cam valve train, the rocker arm is an important part that has great influence on the overall performance of the engine. For such reasons as severe working conditions and comprehensive overall properties requirements, new product development of rocker arm has been becoming the focus of research abroad and domestic in recent years. This paper is centered on the development of a new rocker arm for the TJ370Q engine. Taking it as an example, the parametric design techniques and die casting design process of the up-to-date high-performance rocker arm: the aluminum die-cast rocker arm with a ceramic insert (called "ceramic rocker arm" for short below) were studied in depth using the theory of new product development. The main research works of this paper are summarized as follows:On the basis of analyzing the properties requirements of rocker arm and it's die casting together with giving an overview of its present research state and future trend of development both at home and abroad, the contents and great significance of this research has been set forth.The feature-based design parameters of ceramic rocker arm is investigated and. the technical method has been put forward. On the foundation of the reverse engineering of the original forged steel rocker arm, all the parameters are analyzed and the parametric design model of aluminum ceramic rocker arm is built in this paper. New design can be achieved by constraining and parametrically driving the formed model. Then the design result is optimized by FEA. A parametric and optimum deign system of ceramic rocker arm which integrates the CARE/CAD/CAE process is developed based on Pro/E..On the basis of analysis of the structure of the ceramic rocker arm ,high precision die casting was designed through three-dimensional shaping. The cycle of the design and manufacture of the die was shorten correspondingly.
