As a part of the engine, the valve train is an important mechanism in the whole design of the combustion engine. It not only directly related to the operation of the engine reliability, vibration and noise, but also affects the internal combustion engine power and economy and other basic properties. The valve train parts have kinds of varieties and complex structures, so it designs process is very complicated. In this paper, we established the parametric feature library of the valve components, and to develop a fast computer-aided design system of engine valve train design. This paper based on current research about CAD and secondary development technology, selects Pro/E software as a development platform, to get a more in-depth study on parametric modeling. By extracting the structural parameters of the valve train, we use the parametric tools of the Pro/E such as parameters-relationships and Pro/Program to drive the parameters about the size and the presence of the valve components, and to establish the feature model library about valve parts. At the same time,by using the skeleton assembly applications, we parameterize and control the size of the overall structure and the position of the valve train components, and apply the EXECUTE command in the assembly to control the parameters of the individual elements, to parameterize the whole components.Used the VC++ of Microsoft Visual Studio as the development environment and the secondary development tools Pro/Toolkit with its crucial technologies(such as navigation menus, interactive interface, extract model parameters, etc.) to create a friendly interface, fully functional systems of the valveā€™s parametric design. This system not only can achieve design the valve train rapidly, but also can release the access to external databases ACCESS function by using the ODBC interface technology, to enhance the management of parameter data.
