In this paper, the analysis and design methods of geotechnical reinforced structures such as reinforced soil retaining wall and soil nailing wall were studied. At the present time, the common practice used in designing retaining wall was the limit equilibrium analysis.A equilibrium analysis would be done about the force and moment of the structure .The site of slip failure surface and according minimum safety factor would also be determined through the dibble-dabble method. When the external stability was checked, in the first place, the whole reinforecement structure would be seen as the gravity retaining wall, and then checked the overall stability according to the equilibrium analysis of the force and moment of the structure. But,this method need more workload and also had some deficiency.Based on the principle of the interaction, many test studies had been done ,which showed that the deficiency mainly lied in that the assume about the shape of the slip failure surface, the effect about the stability of the panel and stress-strain relationship of the soil etc.In this paper, the advantage and disadvantage of the usual limit equilibrium analysis was discussed. On the other hand, based on the discussion about the slope stability analysis by finite element method, the meyhod was also applied to the geotechnical reinforced structures aimed at the problem of the ignorance with the panel effect.Whether the reinforced soil retaining wall by embankment or the soil nailing wall by excavation, many case studies indicated that the enhancement of panel stiffness can strengthen the stability of the geotechnical reinforced structures, which might be seen from the safety factor of the slip failure stability. At the same time, the site with maximum pull-out of reinforcement would approach the wall step by step and the pressure of wallboard will enlarge owning to the enhancement of panel stiffness. From the shape of the slip failure surface ,we also can see that the wall was easily occured to destroy in local structure . when the stiffness of panel was shortage or non-panel,which usually showed the slip failure surface appeared in the middle of the panel. However, the case wouldn't occure if the panel had enough stiffness. All above was consistenced with the observation of field engineering. As a result, this paper will have a certain reference value to the design of the geotechnical reinforced structures in the future...
