A Study On Natural Lighting Environment Design In Xiamen Gym

Gym is a special type of building. There are very strictly standard for luminous environment in gym. Up to now, there were few architects use natural lighting instead of artificial lighting in the illumination of many existed gym, though the natural lighting can reduce energy consume more. We think the reason lies in that the natural lighting has some kinds of bad quality, such as instability, asymmetry, and causing direct glare and so on. It seems hard to resolve these problems in lighting design of gym luminous environment. Around the feasibility study of the natural lighting scheme for Xiamen Gym project, we do try to take natural lighting into the inner space of gyms.Firstly, we start the talking around the standard of luminous environment for gym building in the chapter 1. And the thesis is trying to analyze and summarize the character of luminous environment and the common standard in gyms, then pointing out some kind of methods in natural lighting in gym buildings. Then appraising criterions of natural lighting in gyms are given. In the chapter 2, what is the situation of Xiamen gym project is analyzed. After that, we point out the problems of natural lighting that lies in the project. Accordingly, in chapter 3, we put out the idea using prismatic dioptric panel for avoiding the flare of direct light and nonuniform distribution of illumination, which all come from sky lighting in sports building. Further researching on the usage of prismatic dioptric panel is given, on analyzing of the light climate of Xiamen. The rational natural lighting scheme using prismatic dioptric panel is confirmed after the theory analyzing. In chapter 4, the lighting model of Xiamen gym is made to study realization of the effect of the scheme. From the result of the experiment, the scheme using prismatic dioptric panel can meet the request of Xiamen gym. Finally we try to find an appropriate way of lighting in the same kind of architectures.
