Study On Applicability Of Methods For Seismic Appraisal Of RC Frame Structures

It is clear that existing buildings are highly seismic damageable. China is one of the countries that the earthquake disaster are most severe, most of the existing RC frame structures were designed low level according to the codes of that time, considering the affection of durableness, the seismic performance of existing buildings may be poor. Too evaluate the seismic performance of the existing buildings properly and take measures to enforce them is one of the most effective measures to reduce the seismic damage. Currently established procedures tend to be rather rudimentary, which does not match actual design code. In this paper most of the correlative problems are discussed, so as to make suggestions for the recension of standard for seismic appraiser of building.The correlative problems are discussed in the paper, evaluation of seismic performance of the existing RC frame structures are performed, applicability of the methods are summarized by means of contrasting of the results obtained with different methods.Firstly, the method recommends in Standard for seismic appraiser of building is contrasted with the two systems for evaluation of seismic performance of existing RC frame structures (force-based system assessment and displacement-based system assessment) summarized by CEB-fib, the correlative problems in the recommend method are discussed. Those need modifications are pointed out.The procedures may be used for evaluation of the seismic performance of the existing RC structures (response spectrum method, non-linear static analysis and time-history dynamic analysis) are illuminated. The merits and drawbacks and bottleneck problem are illuminated too.At last, assessment of seismic performance of existing RC frame structures are performed with the procedures mentioned above, by means of comparison of the results obtained with different methods, the applicability of each method is illustrated.
