China is one of the countries that the earthquake disaster are most severe.The Wen Chuan Earthquake and Yu Shu Earthquake indicated the possibility that China is in an active earthquake period. The tremendous losing of buildings in Wen Chuan Earthquake indicated that existing buildings are highly seismic damageable and the seismic excitation could change due to the raising of seismic fortification intensity or the changing of structural function.Consequently, seismic appraisal of existing buildings is necessary. Because of the limitation of the two level method in revised edition srandard for seismic appraisal of existing buildings and the applicability of new seismic reaction spectrum method requires investigation, research on applicability of methods for seismic appraisal of RC frame structures is necessary. Firstly, the paper summarized the great loss and causation of the reinforced concrete frame structures,pointed out the necessity of seismic appraisal of RC frame structures. The review of the development of seismic evaluation shows that the seismic appraisal level elevation and new methods application is inevitable.In the next place,the paper summarized the implement process of the two level method and seismic reaction spectrum method;indicated the problem of the two level method in dependability level, flow chart and direction for reinforce work; sumed up and discussed the limitation of seismic reaction spectrum method.The primary causation of existing buildings collapse is deficiency the capability of distortion and consume energy under seldom occurred earthquake.The paper studied the static elasto-plastic analysis (push-over) method for seismic appraisal of RC frame structures, The keystone and implement process ware expatiated and brought forward the evaluation rule of push-over method, depreciation means considering disfigurement of existing buildings.Summing up the research above, some significant matter ware put forward that worthy of paying attention to. At last,assessment of seismic performance of existing RC frame structures are performed with the procedures mentioned above,by means of comparison of the results obtained with different methods,the applicability of each method is illustrated.
