Along with the rapid development of Chinese cities, the commercial pedestrian street develop rapidly too. But when we pay much attention to the theories of city plan, urban design and architectural design about the commercial pedestrian street, we alwaysignore the foundation of our design-people-How people feel and how peoplereact, etc.What this paper studies is the environment cognition of the commercial pedestrian street. The Environment Cognition is a problem of psychology, but this is not the end aim of my work. What I want is to find some ways to design a real humanistic environment in commercial pedestrian street, through the research of the behavior and psychology of people .The research develops along two lines:One is the subject of environment cognition: included of the development and essence property of the commercial pedestrian street and the three degrees of environment cognition-interface-space-the discrimination in city.The two is the theories of environment cognition-the environment psychology.Then follows the seven principals of the commercial pedestrian street environmentdesign.Then comes the part of design. This part respectively discuss the methods of urban design based on seven principals stated before.After this, there are two examples be analyzed and evaluated.At last, after analysis of Sanxia plaza, we point out some suggestion for amelioration.
