Road vehicles renew their quality in a quick step as the living conditions of humans become more and more better off. According the demand for better flatness of road surface is more and more strictly. As a result, the national high-class roads witness their golden time for development. During my school time, I refer to lots of documents and contribute myself a lot to the subject of Road Surface Engineering Works. Based on the definition of flatness, different kinds of detection means of home and broad, the constructing plant and the design of asphalt mixes and combination the high-class road construction experience in recent decade and the performance in service concerning road surface flatness, the thesis concretely analyzes the various influencing factors on flatness of asphalt concrete road surface in its earlier and later terms, and the source of surface roughness and detailed phenomena are studied.This thesis attaches lots of importance to the flatness controlling methods of road surface in the course of construction such as the dealing with foundation of road base and culverts, the filling of sub-base, the construction of road sub-base and base and asphalt concrete surface layer. For each method, the construction craftsmanship of every road structural layer and the key controlling procedures that influence on road flatness in its early and later terms are studied in detail.Finally, the changes of flatness among several expressways are compared after they service more than two-year. The results of comparison confirm the advanced performance of construction plants and the stability of road construction quality. Besides, the thesis points out the necessity of enforcing the design of expressway and the reasonable controlling to assure the quality of road base.The research results contribute effectively to the flatness controlling of road surface, decelerating the falling speed of road flatness, and therefore prolong its service years and improve the comfort and security, which will generate conspicuous economic and social effect.
