Numerical simulation method has been a new method to supervise dam construction in dam design. For arch dam of complicated structure, rationality for dam structure design is validated and good design scheme is adopted by finite element simulating analysis. Choice of economical and reasonable simulating analysis method is very important for broad application of numerical simulation analysis method in dam design. In this thesis, finite element simulating methods for arch dam of complicated structure are researched systemically by engineering example of Xiakou arch dam.There are six chapters in this thesis. The main contents are as follow:Chapter one expatiates development situation about design theory of arch dam, main methods to calculate stress and the characteristics of every method in arch dam. In the end, the main contents of this thesis are summaries and presented.Chapter 2: Basic theories about finite element method are introduced, basic formulas about elastic-plastic finite element method and elastic-plastic matrix are put forward. Grid precision problem that has many effects on calculation results by finite element method is discussed in theory. Common element and its application condition in finite element simulation analysis on arch dam are presented. Observing proceedings about element plot are summarized and illuminated.Chapter 3: 3D finite element entity model and simple model about Xiaokou arch dam are built by the finite element analysis software ANSYS, detailed simulating analysis methods are presented.Chapter 4: Dam structure stress simulation calculation is finished for entity model and simple model about Xiaokou arch dam, from calculation results, it is concluded that building entity model is very necessary for arch dam of complicated structure to simulate and analyze dam structure stress. In addition, design schemes for parts of dam are validated and chosen reasonably, parameter sensitivity analysis on transverse joints in dam is finished.Chapter 5: this chapter summarizes research methods and actuality of the whole safety for dam and the criterions of the whole stabilization safety. Research on the whole safetyhas been done for Xiakou arch dam by different simulating analysis methods, it is concluded that for arch dam of complicated structure different simulating analysis methods have little effect on growing destroy process and mode of losing stability and the whole safety.In the end, the main contents in this thesis are summarized and the further researches in this field are forecasted.
