Research On Urban Function Transformation And Spatial Structure Evolvement

Urban spatial structure evolvement is a mirror reflecting urban development, the mechanism of which roots from urban spatial structure's meeting the need of changing urban function, therefore, the transformation of urban function keeps urban spatial structure in changes, and the adaptation of them will influence development velocity of the city.Taking Xuzhou as the case, this paper analyzes urban temporal-spatial function transformation and structure evolvement. As an ancient city, Xuzhou, full of culture, has a history of 4,000 years. Affected by the changes of social-economic background and urban function evolvement, Xuzhou experienced several function transformations, meanwhile, urban spatial structure evolved with it accordingly. As the result, harmony between urban function and spatial structure brings sustainable development to Xuzhou.Beginning with urban function transformation, the paper analyzes each transformation stage of Xuzhou and shows us Xuzhou with the dominating politics and military function in its early time, transited, before reform and opening up, to energy-heavy industry city, till the end of 21st century became a synthetical industry one, which is more perfect. Nowadays Xuzhou, with its industrialization and urbanization driving by diversification modernization and information of industry, exerts its potential, speed up its urban function transformation, keeping ranking forward stably.The urban spatial structure of Xuzhou formed different patterns in different periods. Based on analyses of the mechanism of spatial structure, this paper finds that urban function is the dominating factor in it, and harmonies between urban spatial structure and urban function will influence the development of the city.Nowadays, under a new development background, urban function of Xuzhou transforms again. Central urban function is going to be its target in the near future, In order to meet the current needs of urban function, Xuzhou should accelerate adjustment pace of urban spatial structure. Moreover, this paper puts forward some adjusting strategies on urban spatial structure according to actual conditions of Xuzhou.
