Suspendome is a new kind of hybrid structural system. It was combinated with single-layer reticulated dome and pre-stressed cable by introducing the concept of tensegrity. It greatly improves the load capability of suspendome. The capability of suspendome is higher than single-layer reticulated dome. Its structural stiffness is also higher than single-layer reticulated dome. Because of this, it can cross large span. It is a new kind of structural system that can be applied in many fields.First, this article introduces the background of suspendome and basic theory. The article also presents the current status of study in China and in the world. Then, the article derives finite element analysis equilibrium equation and element rigidity matrix in use of nonlinear finite element method. The paper introduces the resolution method and convergence rule. The problem of nonlinear buckling of suspendome and method of anti-earthquake design is presented.Analysis and calculation is carried out to a suspendome which spans 44meters. The nonlinear static analysis of suspendome is carried out. On the basis of analysis, the prestress number of cable is ascertained. It is compared that the element internal force and displacement results in different load and different prestress force to suspendome. From the result of analysis and calculation, it is concluded that the displacement is reduced by using prestress cable in suspendome. It can also enhance the rigidity and stability of suspendome. The nonlinear buckling analysis is also carried out. The element internal force and capability of buckling of suspendome is compared in the different support conditions. At last, the article discusses the capability of suspendome in accordance of the result of analysis. It is hopeful that the suspendome can be used in many fields.
