Owing to the reasons of design construction and age etc, a lot of arch bridges have been damaged over the days, going to influence their service, and need to be maintained or strengthened in time. To counter this situation, certain problems as following are combined to study with Huaxi First Bridge of Chongqing Changjiang River in the paper, which can be a reference for the later similar works.(1) In order to know the current work situation of the Huaxi First Bridge of Chongqing Changjiang River, full detection and test are carried out roundly and detailedly.(2) Based on the detection and test result, the finite element model of the bridge is established to assess the stress level deflection and bearing capacity of the main arch.(3) According to the detection and test results, the reasons causing analyses in the paper.Based on the above work, the paper gives the current work situation of the bridge. The engineering practice of the paper could be taken as reference for repairing and strength design of the bridge.
