In the city evolution of ancient China, Dongjing (Bianliang) of North-SongDynasty plays a role of link between the Chang'an of Sui and Tang Dynastyand Beijing of Ming and Qing Dynasty. The change of the spacial structure inDongjing is the most important historic event. Great changes in the cityscapeand the spatial structure had happened. The Li-Fang Form gave place to theJie-Fang Form. The city became wide-open and unrestricted. The relationbetween all parts of the city was much closer. During about 150 years, thecommercial activities were thriving and then a strong citizen's spirit wasevolved which could be found in the city. In order to analyze the process of the city development in Dongjing, somedynamic analytical methods of contemporary urban morphology is used in thethesis. On the basis of the archeology data and the historic literatures aboutDongjing, the layout of the city is researched. And then the support system, thereligion buildings and the mundane buildings have been discussed. Based onthose researches, the spatial structure, the developing rules and the reasons aresummarized and analyzed in the thesis. The map about Dongjing City madeduring the research is precise and detailed. Through the researches, an outstretched and asymmetric city structure canbe found in Dongjing, which seems like the axes-concentric zone city structure.The developing process resembles the political-spontaneous mode. Thedistributing of essential elements is different, which compose the city, as wellas the reasons of the city development. The developments of the city areas werenot balanced, but displayed a kind of scalar structure. It is Politics, economy, the communication methods and the reach ability,Fengshui, religions, environments, structure of old city that influenced the citymorphology and the city development. Those factors were not only making - II -influence separately, but also affecting and restricting one another. All of themformed a complicated system and make their influences on the city.
