Study Of Planning And Design Of Student Dwelling District In University Campus Of China

Great changes have taken place in higher education of China ever since the turning of 20th century. With the rapid development of national economy and social reform, university campus planning and construction is being faced with a wide innovation including the student dwelling district. This thesis is given birth under such background, aiming at planning and design of student dwelling district in university campus as its study subject. Having taken part in several projects in this field, the author had chances to visit some typical student dwelling district of university campuses across China, such as Fudan University, Zhejiang University and Nanjing University, which is rather valuable for this study. Over the studied field, the author confirms the reasonable phenomena, points out the problems, which should be paid more attention to, and tries to put forward the keys to resettle, and in the end the author predicts the trends of the future.This thesis consists of 6 chapters, which outspread according to the order of planning and design. The chief contents are as follow:Chapter 1 makes a brief statement of the study's origin, background, meaning, content and method, mainly in order to tell where background problems exist and what is the meaning of the study.Chapter 2 analyzes the changes of higher education and university campus planning and describes the relationship between university campus and its student dwelling district.Having studied the changes of student dwelling district since the end of last century, in Chapter 3, the author presents two main aspects of planning and design: the outdoor environments and commercial and service establishments, which are important parts constituting student dwelling districts. Some problems existing and several interesting new phenomena happening in student dormitories are pointed out in Chapter 4 and accordingly some key points in the construction of student dormitories in a new period should be attached importance to. Chapter 4 focuses on the study of student dormitory. Some questions and phenomena are pointed out, which appear in the new period. Through analyses, the author gives the key points at the construction of student dormitory and strengthens the importance of the existing questions that we should pay more attention to.Chapter 5 focuses on the study of student dinning hall, inducing the main types, advantages and disadvantages of each, the new questions appeared, and the developing trends.Student center is the topic under discussion in Chapter 6. Study of this respect is just at the beginning in our country, so many successful experiences abroad should be taken for reference in order to accelerate our student center construction. Combining the theory of behavior in the environment with the practical changes in China higher education, the author tries to make some usable suggestions.The last chapter draws a conclusion for the thesis. Reviewing and summarizing the main opinions given before, the author comes up with some advice to help improve the planning and design of college student district.
