"Treasure's value appears only when you lost it." It's usually used to describemood. Nowadays people, especially the ones who live in city, began to feel somethinglost when city modernization benefited them. The skyscraper, as a sub product of citymodernization, clears the difference of different cities easily. The traditional architectureand the hill, as the characters of the city, were nearly drove out of the city's skyline andour memory on the city died away. Skyline is always an inking to cities, though it appears clear. As a symbol of thewhole city, skyline exists indeed but actually not all the people feel it strongly. What'smore, skyline is a large-scale concept but it seems Planning or Urban Design alone, nothing to say Architecture Design, cannot control it. So, are we supposed to deny thevalue of skyline research? Skyline and silhouette are always confused in concept, which is the connaturaldefect of skyline research. Further, the research is short of persuasions due to itsignorance on the concept of viewpoint. This thesis tries to build a systematic frameworkfor skyline, making a definitive relationship between skyline and viewpoint. Only by thisway, it's possible to talk about skyline scientifically. Explain and Read are two parts of the thesis's framework. 1. Explain · Distinguish the three concepts: Skyline, Silhouette and Horizon ·Put forward the concept of view point ·Use the concepts of visual distance, visual angle, climate to give further explanation to the relationship between skyline and viewpoint and consequently, IIIput forward the concepts of static model and dynamic model of skyline research. ·Bring forward the concepts and principle of the controlling points of skyline, tomake the describing of skyline more scientifically 2.Read ·Discuss the social value and aesthetic value of skyline by using the conceptshereinbefore ·summarize the actual possibility to controlling the skyline This thesis has 36,000 characters and 135 illustrations, including 48 photos by theauthor, 15 drawings and a table by the author.
