Urban Design Of Waterfront Areas

In this dissertation, the author puts forward some solutions of the problems in urban waterfront planning and constructing. Those solutions are based on urban planning theory and also his research work in current situations of urban waterfront planning in Wuhan as well as in other parts of China.This dissertation consists of three parts.In the first part, the author analyses urban waterfront planning and constructing strategy in Europe and America, as well as the current situation of urban waterfront planning in China. Then he points out several problems in urban planning, mainly the lack of systematic planning, harmony with water, sustainable development and harmony with environment.In the second part, the author explains modern theory and methods in urban planning, and discusses the planning methods of general structure, space, roads and scenery in urban waterfront planning, Giving some examples, the author puts forward his perceptions in urban waterfront planning----to build up a systematic system of city planning, to make the best use of space, to optimize the roads and waterfront pavements, and to keep in control the city's skyline and the shape of architecture.In the third part, by giving an example of the planning of Wuhan moon lake area, the author puts forward some detailed methods of urban waterfront area planning, which coincides with the above perceptions----systematic planning, space, roads, pavements, skylines and sustainable historical culture.
