A Study On The Planning And Design Of Urban Waterfront Landscape

Water is vital to life, without water, we could not exist. Water is also a critical part of our spiritual life, symbolizing life, faith and love. It’s also an important factor for generation and development of a city. In recent decades, as the accelerated process of urbanization, people are realizing the importance of the waterfront space and beginning the construction of waterfront landscape. However, due to the lack of a reasonable and effective planning and design guidance, a series of problems have appeared, such as environment destruction, waste of resources, lack of regional culture and redundant construction, etc. How to construct urban waterfront landscape with not only fulfill the basic functions of irrigation and flood control, but also fulfill the protection of environment, continuation of local culture and requirements of hydrophilic and improvement of urban quality, becomes a problem that worth thinking about.In this paper, the urban waterfront landscape planning and design related issues were discussed. First, we have made a overall cognition and comprehensive analysis of urban waterfront landscape, summed up the concept, definition of scope, function and role of elements and characteristics. Second, we have done the research of history and current situation of development of domestic and international urban waterfront landscape. We also analyzed some representative landscapes, summed up its design features, guiding theories, design methods that well worth we learned from. In response to a common problem in China’s urban waterfront landscape planning and design, with learning from the experience in of outstanding cases, I summed up the principles and design methods that our urban waterfront landscape design should adhere to.Finally, on the basis of theoretical studies, I had a practice-the planning and design of Qingshan urban waterfront park in Yizheng.The earlier conclusions applied to real project design process made me deeply understand the significance of combining the theory and practice. This article comprehensively analyzed the case with the introduction and refinement to each node and detail, such as Project Overview, Resource Evaluation and Analysis, positioning theme function planning, traffic planning, etc.(vertical planning, revetment planning, planning of building structures, water system planning, night lighting planning, municipal services, facilities planning, landscape nodes and landscape axis planning, green planning) Urban waterfront landscape design is a vast and complex subject. This paper only provide research ideas about urban waterfront landscape planning. I hope to attract the attention of people of urban waterfront landscape planning. We still have a lot of work to do in order to make urban landscape more attractive.
