Electrical transformer is among the most important electrical equipments of power system, Research about protective principle about transformer and achieve technology is all along kept trace widely by relay protection researchers. This paper looks back evolvement history and actuality of transformer protection. For solving the problem of massive principles and complicate configurations during actual application of transformer backup protection, an idea is raised for developing general backup protection system for transformer, i.e. only one backup protection system is needed to adapt to varying application occasions.This paper systematically expounds ensemble design project,design principles and function requirements of general backup protection system for transformer, And it is compendiously illustrated of basic functions and features of software system.Backup protection principles for transformer are simple and mature, but their categories are massive. This paper analyzes and dicusses key protection principles and arithmetics according to actual application of general backup protection system for transformer.Key technology problem is analyzed deeply for realizing general protection, after soteware framework and function are introduced detailedly. At the same time, this paper raises to make use of maxium protection functions configuration to solve the problem of general protection functions configuration, to make use of "mapping theory" to realize coordination and cooperate between hareware and software and to make use of making index array to realize dynamic adjustment of supervisor and management interface.General backup protection equipment for transformer has been verified by static simulation experiment and dynamic simulation experiment. The experiment results are given in the paper, they manifest that capability of equipment has come up to prospective destination. The application of general backup protection for transformer will be beneficial to decrease consumption of development and maintainance and increase reasonability of equipment running.
