With the rapid development of power industrial in our country, the protectiondevice for transformer whether can exactly, timely, reliably act, which is one of animportant factor for power grid to guarantee running securely in modern electricsystem. Now, the real time, precision of calculation and the velocity of runningdatum are required to improve on backup protection device for transformer.Single-chip system can't satisfy user's requirements in many situations. However,DSP system will gradually substitute single-chip system because of its advantages,such as the velocity of running and high precision.DSP owns rapid instruction periods, address buses separated from data buses,which can excellently adapt to the rapid digital signal process. Besides, it hasabundance of hardware resources, strong instructions, excellence developingcircumstance and corresponding with developing platform, which greatly improveperformance of protection products. Based on the DSP56807 chip of MOTOROLACompany, this paper proposes a designing scheme of backup protection device fortransformer, which includes measuring, protection and communication etc.The reliability of micro computer protection, protection algorithm of microcomputer and designing of device are studied in this paper. Firstly, the reliability ofmicro computer protection is analyzed and calculated according to theory. At thesame time, the reliability of backup protection device for transformer with self-examis estimated by constructing state-module. Some measurements of reliability aboutbackup protection device for transformer are also presented. Secondly, some oftypical protection algorithms about micro computer are researched in theory. Lastly,based on understanding the structure and function of backup protection device fortransformer, its hardware and software are designed and introduced.The backup protection device for transformer based on DSP was passedperformance criterions of required by using dynamic simulations. Results testifiedthat the device has high measuring precision, high correct action, high reliability etc.Now, the application of backup protection device for transformer based on DSP isvery wide from its researching.
