The wide usage of superconducting technology and the development of high energy and high intensity accelerators speed up the researching process of superconducting radio frequency accelerating cavity (superconducting cavity for short). The research in this dissertation is sustained by the project: Researching on High Accelerating Gradient, Medium-β Structure Superconducting Cavity, which is a part of the project: Innovative Research of The Key Technologies on High Intensity Proton Linac, supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences' knowledge innovation program. In this dissertation, study on the vertical testing system for the 1.3GHz superconducting cavity is carried out.The main research theme of this dissertation is about technical and theoretical background, performance analysis of superconducting cavity and the realization of its vertical testing system. Emphasis is set on the hardware and software realization of the high frequency small signal controlling and testing subsystem of the vertical testing system. This dissertation consists of three main parts:In the first part, the primary characteristics of superconductors are introduced. On this basis, the basic theories of superconductivity technology, concerning the performance of superconducting cavities, are explained. In the second part, the theoretical analysis for the superconducting cavity is discussed and the main parameters for evaluating the performance of a superconducting cavity are laid out. Also discussed are the main limits to superconducting cavity and their solutions. Also in this part, principles of cavity testing and the testing process are explained. The third part first describes the functions and performances of the sub-systems for the vertical testing system, then researching on the hardware and software realization of the high frequency, small signal controlling and testing subsystem is focused on. Vertical testing system for superconducting cavity is an important part of the research work on superconducting cavity technology. It is one of the commonly used methods of evaluating the performance of a superconducting cavity. The vertical testing system for the 1.3GHz superconducting cavity will be the first one which can satisfy the engineering application purpose in China. This system will be a good technical preparation for the development of Chinese superconducting accelerators.
