With the rapid development of information technology and the wide use of computer, the application of Computer Simulation is increasingly popular. Liquid Cargo Handling System Simulator is a typical example of Computer Simulation in the field of navigation, and has become an important way to train and examine most sailors who work on this type ship. Chemical Tank Simulation is one kernel part of Liquid Cargo Handling System Simulator.Pursuant to IMO Specification for a Cargo Handling Simulator (STCW78/95) the simulator is realized as modular software for personal computers, and is designed to train sailors that can make them master the basic skills needed on ship, be familiar with normal work process, enhance safety consciousness and reduce accidents mostly. The software also can monitor the move status of chemical tank simulation system, and represent the main parameters such as temperatures, pressure. The developing processes of Chemical Tank Simulation are as follows:Firstly, being familiar with each subsystem of chemical tank, comprehending their basic work theory, predigesting them and producing models. The main subsystem includes cargo handling system, ballast system, washing system, inert gas plant system, Cargo heating system and so on.Secondly, building up human-machine interface in Visual C++ 6.0 development environment on platform Windows 2000 by some kinds of tools and compiling class in language C++ for each subsystem by Object- Oriented method, defining their function and properties and making them realized and encapsulated. Compiling logic for each exercise pursuant to actual physical operation. Insuring that every exercises can be operated and within reason.Lastly, testing the system to make sure that all exercises are right and can be operated smoothly and compiling user's manual guide to make user use the software easily. The object- oriented method is successfully used in modeling in Chemical Tank Simulation. The software is designed and developed accord with theories of modernsoftware engineering. Some technologies have been used to make the system more efficiently, such as ActiveX, multithreading, and database.
