Long-span spatial structures will be widely used with development of national economy, success of bidding for the Beijing 2008 Olympics and the Shanghai 2010 world exposition, consumption of structural steel is advocated by the government. It's critical to research new construction technology and analytic methods. While, it is difficult to simulate the whole erection process for the structure system of long-span spatial structure is complicated, and it has many factors to affect the structure mechanics during the erection process. As a research object, the classifications, characteristics, procedure and relevant technical issues of sliding construction are summarized. The birth and death elements of FEA is used to simulate the whole erection process, and it was verified by a simple example. The whole accumulative sliding construction process of a long-span reticulated shells with span of 120 meter is computed by method of birth and death elements. The results of approximate method and the calculation results under construction load were compared. The non-linearity effect to construction analysis is studied, and effects to finishing structure mechanics by division of sliding element and amount of sliding rail were also studied. The whole accumulative sliding construction process of prestressed cylindrical reticulated shells coal storage of xinxing's power plant was monitored by fiber bragg grating sensor system. On the one hand, ,in order to ensure construction security, the structure mechanics during the whole erection process was monitored by quasi-distributed method; on the other hand, the deforms and mechanics of every construction stage was recorded and comparing to calculation results by method of birth and death elements. The additional force and abnormity of sliding process were also analyzed. At last, after summarizing the result of this paper, the future research work was presented.
