The two-way curved arch bridge was one of the main bridge type of the county and village in our country form I960' s to 1980' s . It has the following advantages, novel structure, saving materials , easy to construction , low cost, etc. So it was spread and used over nation in the construction of medium and small bridge . But , because of the limit of conditions, the two-way curved arch bridge also has the disadvantages of the bad structural integrity etc. Meanwhile it has run 30 to 40 years, and it exists various weaknesses and deficiency. So it doesn' t meet the needs of today' s high speed economic development. Considering this type of bridge has the potentialities to overload like other arch bridges, it can be continued to use safely by reinforcing and repairing , and it can reach the higher, designing standard by reinforcing and widening.This article has researched how to reach the purpose which improves the bearing capacity of the bridges by changing the spandrel structure system to lighten the steady load and to improve the "structure state of stress. The background of this article is the reinforcing and widening project of Zoumagang Bridge (the two-way curved arch bridge ) in Jiangxi Province. This article is built on the study of the whole process which test and examine the structure of the bridge, check up and analyze the available bearing value , evaluate the state of bridge, study the reinforcing , improving the load and widening programme, analyze and calculate the reinforcing and widening structure, study the reinforcing , improving the load and widening stulls and key points of carrying out, test the effect and evaluate structure after reinforcing and widening . And then reinforce and widen the bridge with these following measures-using carbon fiber reinforced plastic lamintejacket, cantilever widening, using reinforced concrete jacket, etc. This article emphasizes to study the theory how to reinforce the two-way curved arch bridge through changing spandrel structure system to summarize the construction method and effect , so that it can be spread and applied in practice of reinforcing improving the load and widening the same type of bridge.
