3D model is an indispensable instructional tool in the teaching of mechanical drawing of descriptive geometry. However, previous instructional model can't be taken maximum advantage, because it is restricted by time and space. But with the development of Virtual Reality and the increasing popularity of campus network, the combination of VRML-Java technology draws light on the way of solving mode-making problem.VRML(virtualRealityModelingLanguage)is an interactive and platform-independent language, which is open and interpretive text language to descript virtual 3D modeling space in networking environment. As an interpretive text language, what is required to transport through network is only a little descriptive file for VRML, so large quantity of computation and scenery generating is finished through IE. So VRML is a new tool to make the instructional model of descriptive geometry and mechanical drawing, which fit to transport in network. The basic CAI teaching theory and the technique of VRML-Java are mainly discusses in this thesis. The principle, method and implementation process of the delicately interactive controlling node objects in the virtual scenery are researched by means of EAI of VRML through Java. Moreover, several key techniques of building descriptive geometry VR network teaching modeling library are implemented.VR model library of descriptive geometry built in the paper is comprised of more than 200 models. The library can be extended conveniently when it is needed. The 3D models in the library are vivid and flexible, and easy to be controlled. The model library can be not only browsed in the campus network, but also can be used in single computer. A user can manipulate the model arbitrarily and observe it in any perspective in the IE. The building of VR model library can be expected to fulfill the students' demand on model fundamentally.
