The management of the bed solids inventory and particle size distribution in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) has long been recognized as a key factor for the efficient and trouble-free operation of industrial scale CFB. It is important to know well on ash formation characteristics of coals in a CFB boiler.The mixture coal (Huo Lin-he and Fu Xin coal) used by Huang Gu Thermal Power Plant, where have several CFB boilers, is used for analyses. The procedure of coal' s formation, the characteristics of coalrock, the crusher and particles' fragmentation and attrition are researched.The conclusion is, when studying the coal ash formation in CFB combustion , we could not simply consider the total coal particles, even one particle, as the same. At the same time, in order to draw a complete conclusion, we should gather the information on the formation procedure of coalrock, the characteristic of fragmentation system, the distribution of mineral within the feed coal and the combustion condition.
