Based on the multilevel voltage source inverter SIGA prototype variable frequencydrive machine, the presented paper expatiates the principles of the center controller andeach part of the prototype machine. A novel optimal phase-shifting multilevel VSI PWMalgorithm has been developed, which can reach the maximum value of DC voltageutilization. The paper also discusses the power quality issues between variablefrequency drive (VFD) and power line supply and proposes a strategy based on thenovel optimal phase-shifting multilevel VSI PWM algorithm to mitigate voltagedeviation and voltage sag problems, which has been proved by MATLAB simulation andSIGA prototype machine experiment.
