With the development of the economy, the structural form and function of residence put forward the new request for load and resistance. Adjusting the level of structural reliability has become a problem to resolve urgently. The old resistance data of typical residential buildings and element structural member should be updated in a large scale, which is an important fundamental work to the study of structural reliability. This research is a part of "The Reliability Study of Residential Buildings", that is the National Tenth Five-Year Projects of science and technology. Based on the investigation of typical multi-storey and high-rise residential buildings in Xi'an, a great quantity of strength of concrete and steel data and a lot of dimension tolerances date of reinforced concrete structural members are gathered. Making use of the mathematical statistics analysis, statistical parameters and probability distributions of the resistance of typical building materials and element structural members is studied, Thereby the distributed models and parameters of the resistance of typical building materials and element structural members, at the same time, analyses and compare the different point of the design level and the construction level of the resistance of typical building materials and element structural members.Based on the investigation on the floor live load and resistance parameters of typical residential buildings, the paper systematically studies the reliability level of residential buildings nowadays, analyses the effect of the value of floor live load and increased load as the room decoration to the structural reliability. On this base, the design of structural reliability is advanced.
