With the development of the economy, the structural form and function of residence put forward the new request for load and resistance. Adjusting equilibrium level of reliability between economy and security has become a problem to resolve urgently. In order to achieve the whole target that the design reference period is heightened from 50 years to 100 years, based on the latest residence load data, this paper applied part of the research on "The Reliability Study and Design of Residential Buildings" .This research is a part of "The Reliability Study of Residential Buildings", that is the National Tenth Five-Year Projects of science and technology. Based on the investigation of typical multistorey and high-rise residential buildings in Xi'an and Baotou, which is what the research aims at, using the method of the average load in room area and the uniformly distributed floor loads equivalent to actual loading floor area, calculating equations for the sustained floor live load are provided in terms of the equivalent load. Making use of the mathematical statistics analysis, the distributed models and parameters of the sustained live load and the transient live load on residential floor are obtained at design reference period T=50 years and T=100 years, based on which , the floor load is studied and the load curve is plotted. Then using the information reflected by the curve, reliability analysis method is adopted to get the reliability index curve. This research indicated that our countrjy's characteristic value of live load on residential floor is severely higher, which results in th|e lower lever of the reliability setting of building structures in our country. Further research should be focused on it. The index curve plotted in the paper can be used as reference to further research.
