As a special towering structure, the theoretic analysis and structure calculation on steel silo are different from that of silos or buildings. There are still many different viewpoints which need to be research furtherly, although many researchers have done many researches and experiments and have drawn some consistent conclusions and formulas, engineering accidents still take place such as crazing ,breakdown and so on. Stored material loads acting on steel silo wall and the interaction between the foundation and the steel silo now are two critical questions for engineering designers.In this paper, the static pressure acting on steel silo wall simulated by 3-D contact arithmetic whose boundary condition is highly nonlinear provided by Marc is used to analyze the compute stress and displacement of steel silo wall of a lipp steel silo, regarding stored materials as continuous elastic and plastic ideal matter which is subjected to the Mohr-Coulomb rule and the friction of stored materials acting on steel silo wall belong to the Coulomb friction.The comparison between corresponding stress and displacement results with that from Janssen's static formula shows the rationality of this highly nonlinear contact arithmetic.The compute results of the dynamic pressure formula acting on steel silo wall derived by considering the situation of the stored materials forming arch in silo and the pure height of arch are compared with that from other theoretical formulas and the testing datas of a silo model, which shows the derived formula is rational. Then that dynamic pressure by the MSC.Marc' entrance to Fortran subroutine is used to analyze the compute stress and displacement of the lipp steel silo wall, and furtherly discuss the credibility and validity of the derived formula.The Newmark time integration method is used to the nonlinear temporal dynamic analysis of the lipp steel silo under different seismic load levels by considering the soil nonlinear by using Duncan-zhang model. The Duncan-zhang model is added into Marc software by compiledFortran programme. Some dynamic response characters and general regularity of silo structure under seismic load are analyzed by numerical calculation to find out which part of the steel silo is in danger and to evaluate the aseismatic power and security of the steel silo.After this systematic research on the static and dynamic pressure characters of the silo structure, this paper summarizes the research results and gives some conclusions ,and also points out that there are some problems which are worthy of deep study.
