Green space of residential district, the "green lung" closest to people, can obviously ameliorate and improve habitation quality. With the development of society, the construction of green space of residential district has been developed quickly. But its development is at the expense of consuming excessivly tap water. With the problem of water resources becoming increasingly acute, and at the background of global sustainable development, green space landscape of the residential district should be sustainable, especially utilizing water resources. Studying on water-saving landscape in residential district will help to improve its healthy development.Prominent achievements of water-saving landscape had been made and correlative studies of residential district were reported abroad. The research about water-saving landscape in our country is still in the primary stage, and there is few reports on that of residential district, and the only reports were limited to collection and utilization of rainwater resources. In this thesis, the achievements and shortages of water-saving landscape theory at home and abroad were reviewed. Through field survey of 12 representative residential districts and information the departments of real estate supplied, the data of plant species, the arrangement of landscape plant, the pattern and material of pavement, the irrigation technique and landscape pool and the actuality of water utilization was obstained. Then the actuality of landscape construction of residential districts in Hangzhou was analysed from water-saving perspective. As a whole, the maintenance of green space in residential districts in Hangzhou consume tap water excessively. This landscape can be named "water-wasting" landscape, because on one hand, the arrangement of landscape plants, management and maintenance and water landscape would consume much water resources; on the other hand, the unconventional water resources including rainwater and recycled water resources hasn't been taken full use.
