Corrugated sleeve, also named elastic sleeve, is a kind of revolving shell. It has a corrugation part and the diameters of two ends aren't same. It works as a kind of flexible adjuster to adjust bearing preload in similar products such as automobile reducer, conducing to high efficiency and stable working capability. Traditionally, the rigid sleeve is used to adjust preload bearing, its length should be picked carefully, preload adjusted by adding or subtracting pads. The sleeve needs to be adjusted again and again during assembling process, technics is complicated and precision is difficult to be controlled. At present, the forming process of corrugated sleeve's isn't perfect. There haven't reports about theory study of it's characteristic. Corrugated sleeve's characteristic and rule of how corrugated sleeve's shape parameters influencing its characteristic aren't clear. Credible design method hasn't been presented. Shape parameters of corrugated sleeves which have been put into use is obtained by repeating experiment, which obstructs its apply on a large scale, except for being only used in automobile drivers now. In this paper, different series of corrugated sleeves and their sink-bulging dies are designed and workpieces are produced. Corrugated sleeve pressing curve is tested out: corrugated sleeve deforms easily under axial pressure and press keeps stable in an especial range of deformation. The rule of how corrugated sleeve shape influencing its characteristic is also given: when the maximal diameter doesn't change, the slope of elastic curve and press of the plastic yielding point increase gradually as radius of corrugation part arc increases; when the radius of corrugation part arc doesn't change, the slope of elastic curve and press of the plastic yielding point reduce gradually as maximal diameter increases. In this paper, corrugated sleeve's corrugation part is looked as a ring shell. Based on ring shell theory and metal plastic theory, corrugated sleeve's math-mechanics model is proposed and the working characteristic calculated out; based on method of nonlinear limited element, corrugated sleeve's numerical simulation is done through ANSYS. Theory result, simulation result and experiment result are consistent, satisfying the request of engineering. This paper perfects sink-bulging technics, offers experience and guidance for producing different series of corrugated sleeves. The research of theory and experiment about corrugated sleeve characteristic founds an important basis for establishing design method of corrugated sleeve ultimately, spurring corrugated sleeve to apply on a large scale in engineering practice.
