Underwater vehicles is a kind of carrier used to explore deep sea and exploit oceanresources, and the pressure hull of underwater vehicles is the all-important key technologyrelating to the capability to resist deep-sea pressure and the overall performance. Along withthe development of undersea equipment technology, the research on traditional cylindericalshell and spherical shell is comparatively applicable,however the research about toroidal shellapplied to main pressure hull and passageway of multiple pressure hull is immature, socarrying out this kind of research is of significance for developing multifunctional underwatervehicles.When it is used in underwater engineering, toroidal shell need to be reinforced by rings toimprove its stability. However, current research on ring-stiffened toroidal shell is very few, andthis paper mainly research on the performance of ring-stiffened toroidal shell, including fouraspects as follow:1. The analysis of strength and rigidity characteristics of the whole ring-stiffened toroidalshell is presented by finite element method, showing its law along with structuralcharacteristics.2. The law of buckling-deformation of ring-stiffened toroidal shell is given based on FEMfor the first time, and an approximate computing method in consideration of geometricnon-linearity and material non-linearity for ultimate strength of ring-stiffened toroidal shell israised.3. Based on3-D hydroelasticity of floating bodies method, the vibration and acousticradiation of cylindrical shell and toroidal shell with similar ratio of weight to cubage andultimate depth are analysed, and the law of vibration and acoustic radiation along withtoroidal’s radius is showed.4. A model test on ring-stiffened toroidal shell will be carried out to verify the solution oftheory method and numerical method, and the craftwork of toroidal shell with large radius willalso be discussed.The comprehensive and systematic analysis of ring-stiffened toroidal shell’s performanceis carried out for the first time, being of great significance in undersea engineering and makinga foundation for subsequent research.
