With the development of computer and image acquisition technology, image processing extends its applying in improving quality of image to resolving problems in many fields of science and technology, such as medical image analysis, fingerprint identification, quality inspection of products, and so on. Because of many unique advantages of digital image processing, it develops very rapidly, and now is one of hotspots in modern technology research. As the image of the artillery's inside berrel was checked by man for a long time in our country, its efficiency is low and the results are not reliable. This research project has developed an advanced inspecting process based on the digital image processing technique. The image inside the chamber was analysised by the computer. The efficiency is higher and the results are more stable and accurate. The image can be shot and saved continuously by the computer.Firstly, the aimed image is grasped and saved, then, the computer does carries out the image processing. At last, damage images are recognized. At the same time, damage images are devided into several types, and the sizes of the images are also provided. To meet the practical requirements, we saved the image as color image, and they can represent the real state of the workpiece's surface very well. In the image processing process, a histogram processing method was applied , so the image can be checked by human being in a better way.We also used the moulding board subtracting method to remove the non-damage image features. This advanced digital inspecting technique for the canon's inside berrel has a good practical applying prospect.
