On one hand, the bridges connect the roads by going across rivers and bays. On the other hand, the bridgesare man-made barriers to the ships. Statistics reveal that it happens several serious ship-bridge collisions everyyear in the world. The collisions may damage the ship and bridges, lead to traffic stoppage even casualty, whichhave serious influence on society and environment. Pile foundation is widely used in bridge building. Therefore,study on the pile dynamic response under ship impact load is of great theoretical and practical value. Novak pile-soil interaction dynamic model is firstly used in the paper, which overcomes the disadvantage oftraditional analysis method that do not considered the pile-soil interaction enough. Matlab is employed to compile a program that can calculate pile dynamic response under ship impact load.An example is brought forward and calculated by the program. The results are compared with the code. Severalinfluence factors to pile displacement under ship impact load are discussed, some qualitative conclusions areobtained, and some suggestions for pile design are made. Finite element analysis is applied to study the pile response through ANSYS program, in which nonlinearmaterial properties of the soil are taken into consideration. The results of the response are consistent with theresult calculated by the program. It provided important insights into the study on the pile dynamic response.
