Study On The Environment Design Of Urban Riverfront Revetment Space

Over the years, there started a worldwide trend of developing and redeveloping waterfront areas with the aim of improving the environment, preserving city landscape as well as providing recreation space for the public. A great number of inland cities are endowed with rivers and lakes, as a result of which the development of waterfront is emphasized as a way of demonstrating the unique image of the city. Though most of the cities have preserved the landscape belt along the waterfront as an open place for the general public, various problems arose regarding the design of the revetment space, including those related to ecology, environment and cultural heritage.Chapter 1 of this essay gives a clear definition of the concept and exact coverage of waterfront revetment space, as well as a review of previous research findings on this topic, followed by a summary of the development history of revetment space and causes behind the development.Chapter 2 provides ground for the design of revetment space by analyzing the revetment space layout and space behavior.Chapter 3 and 4 constitute the mainstay of the essay, where the principles and methods of environmental design of revetment space are proposed, and a thorough analysis is presented regarding various elements constituting the revetment space and the design proposal.Chapter 5 is a case study, in which a field study is carried out on the status quo of the Hankou riverfront revetment space in Wuhan and questionnaires distributed. Both pros and cons are presented to serve as references for the future development of revetment space in Wuhan.Supported by a wide range of theories and practices both home and abroad with numerous pictures, this essay attempts to provide a fairly complete summary of a good environmental design of waterfront revetment space by analyzing the recreation behavior, the layout, patterns and elements of the revetment space, and the design methods. It is hoped that the findings herein will help solve problems currently facing the environmental design of revetment space.
