| Based on the complexity of the air-flow in cylinder, in order to give a better research of the swirl, turbulence forms in cylinder air-flow during the intake and compression process, and obtain the principle of the air flow in cylinder so that we can offer experiment data for the optimization of the combustion and the improvement of the capability of ICE. A new measure mode in flow field is used to investigate the air-flow in diesel engine, which is called PIV—Particle Image Velocimetry. As a non-contact measure mode, the PIV has broken through the limitation of the single-contact measure mode, which can get the instantaneous change information in two dimensions flow field. It will be widely used in the future, and it offers a new measure way in air flow research in diesel engine.For the better use of the PIV in diesel engine, it must be connected the general demands of the PIV with the actual working condition of the diesel engine. In the paper, the principle of the PIV is introduced firstly, and then the features and the functions of the different parts of the PIV are stated in details which include the light sources of the double-impulse lasers, the tracer particle, the digital image recording system of CCD and the image processing methods based on cross-correlation for PIV. Finally, the experiment setup is introduced, the experiment data is acquired at the different crank angle during the inlet and compress process, as the same time the experiment data is compared with numerical simulation by the software of Star-CD. By comparison, the availability and the accuracy of the PIV applied in diesel engine is confirmed, the PIV has offered a visible research method in air flow in cylinder. |
