Wave load is the important environmental one on hydraulic structure. The study of analysis for wave load has very important science meaning and practical value. In this paper, the numerical simulation is used to calculate design wave element before hydraulic structure on which wave forces are studied. A rational analytic method for wave load on hydraulic structure is proposed.Firstly, the extended form of mild-slope equation is derived and several terms are added into governing equation to model the effect of higher-order bottom, energy dissipation and nonlinearity. Compared with the traditional mild-slope equation, the new alternative form of equation significantly improves the accuracy of numerical simulation, making it applicable to a wider range and able to simulate wave refraction, diffraction, reflection, bottom, breaking and nonlinearity at the same time. The numerical model is tested by computing wave field for several examples of laboratory experiment, and agreement between model results and available experimental data is found to be quite reasonable.Secondly, a banded matrix equation is established by using the finite difference equations of governing equation and boundary conditions. The Gaussian Elimination with partial Pivoting (GEP) method with a thrifty banded matrix solver is used to directly solve the elliptic mild-slope equation in a small computer and the computing efficiency is significantly improved. Compared with the traditional method, the problems that the computing amount is very large and the computing efficiency is very low are significantly improved.Finally, combined engineering practice, the design wave element before hydraulic structure is calculated by using numerical simulation and the wave forces on the small-diameter cylinders are studied. In order to solve some problems of calculating horizontal and vertical wave force on empty structure that criterions have not prescribed definitely at present, a rational analytic method for wave load on hydraulic structure is proposed.
