| The resource is an important material foundation to develop production and improve people lives, however the resource absence of the whole world is gradually serious. Our country is broad, but the people's average resource is comparatively lack. The disposal of solid waste is become more important for the continued impacting of vast scale varied industry waste to the human circumstance.The artistic decorating simple brick was made from solid wastes such as red mud, fly ash and so on. Some additives were used to improve the properties. The press forming was used. Two sides of a question were mainly studied and discussed in the paper. (l)Some additives were used to improve the properties because the chemical composition of the solid wastes was fluctuated and the properties was difficult to control. The use of every kind of additive was analyzed and the appropriate quantity of the additive was discussed. (2)The decoration of the artistic decorating simple brick was discussed, such as color arrangement, figuration designing. The artistic decorating simple brick was decorated by many kinds of glaze. The body-glaze fit was studied.The water absorption, porosity, bulk density and bend strength have been measured. The phase compositions, microstructures and element distribution have been tested by XRD, SEM and EPMA. The body-glaze fit and the reaction mechanism of the body was discussed. The results showed that the porosity is about 35%~50%, bending strength is about 20~30MPa, thermal conductivity is about 1.1195 ×10-2 W.cm-1. K-1. The main crystalline phases are CaAl2Si2O8, SiO2 and CaMgSi2O6, and they interlaced as strips and small rodlike crystals. The pores dispersed uniformly in the samples. The effects of additives and preparation process to the properties and microstructures were discussed in detail. The artistic decorating simple brick was brightly colored. The body-glaze fit was well. It was adapt to be used as the outsides wall brick of villa and other top grade builds.
