Along with the accelerated process of realizing digital manufacturing, statusinformation of manufacturing devices is urgently needed for providing enterpriseswith a basis for management, decision-making and system control. Owing to greatdifferences of automatic equipments from different vendors on the aspects such ascontrol means, communication interface and protocols, it becomes very difficult toacquire and integrate manufacturing information from devices. On the other hand, traditional manufacturing automation software was developed oriented structure, which hardly satisfies the requirement of reuse and extension. So the purpose of thisdissertation is to pursue an effective and feasible way to acquire status infromation ofmanufacturing devices quickly and easily and to offer them as a component service toapplications on all levels based on a kind of open standard, which leads to an openmanufacturing automation system (MAS). Based on the study of information system and its transportation characteristics, important communication networks and technologies in MAS are compared andanalyzed. Then a wireless supervisory control solution based on industrial Ethernetand WLAN is brought forward. In this solution, PDA can directly acquire status offield devices without a server. Key technologies in realizing the wireless SCADAsystem are described in details. This system is successfully developed to implementsupervisory controlling with convenience. On the basis of research on OPC specifications, a global architecture and datamodel as well as key technologies in realizing an OPC DA Server and itsconfiguration program are also presented. In order to protect legacy PLC systems andcut down integration cost, an OPC Server for OMRON PLC in accordance with OPCDA 2.05 specification with its configuration software is successfully developed usingCOM/DCOM technology. The OPC DA server and wireless SCADA system are applied in an mechatronicstraining system. The application shows the validity of OPC DA server and that thewireless SCADA system can meet the requirement of real-time communication andreliability.
